TORM

Tue Nov 24, 2009, 1:44 PM
Went to TORM this weekend in Coventry (The Original Re-enactors Market [link] - a twice yearly market of re-enactment gear, plus historical fashion shows, and these days also has a few larp stalls). It was pretty fun, and I came away with a lovely regency bonnet, a new pair of fancy stockings, and 'The Moy Gown' dress pattern by Reconstructing History, which should be a fun project at some point, and my first move away from mainstream commercial patterns (I seem to have reached the limits of them in terms of medieval stuff - I've tried most of them now, I think, and none are quite right for what I want).

My hubby managed to get himself some great tall boots for a very good price, and I pointed out lots of nice little things I'd love to turn up in my stocking at christmas :)

Stopped to watch their 'film and tv' fashion show - mostly not direct copies of costumes from films, but rather the more historically accurate reproductions they have of dresses from the relevant eras. Some of it was very beautiful indeed, and I winced at the amount of time that had been spent hand sewing some of them. I am jealous of their skill and dedication. They also had some little sketches from Blackadder and Oliver, which made it a bit more fun.

Meanwhile, I have finished the skirt for my victorian dress (although trying to work out how to make the pleats in the trimming stay nice and crisp), just have the bustle to go now! Then will be able to post some pictures soon hopefully

I'm a Larper and I've found one of the most enjoyable parts of larp (apart from excitement and adventure, drinking and socialising) is all the creative stuff that comes with it - making costumes and props, background and narrative writing etc etc. I've made quite a lot of stuff over the years, so I thought I might show some of it off here. I'm no great artist or craftsperson, so don't expect anything stunning, but I do my best. I might also add some non larp stuff I enjoy doing from time to time too - crafts, creative writing, photographs and occassional drawings.

One quick point to make - because I'm not great at drawing, I've used oher people's designs from time to time as part of decorations on props and costume I've made. As far as I'm aware, all of these are copyright free - however, if I have mistakenly used something I shouldn't have, please let me know and I'll be happy to remove it (and feel v embarrassed about it all too!)
